Большой аппетитный шмат замороженного мяса от "шеф-повара" - шведской андеграундной легенды Cold Meat Industry
'Regular readers of Heathen Harvest reviews will have noticed that, over the years, we have carried many reviews from Cold Meat Industry and as usual, quality as always is paramount to the label, this release comes as no surprise, nor is it a diversion in the standards that have been consistently high over the years. Following in the footsteps of the successful compilations, “Flowers Made of Snow” and the now sold out “The Absolute Supper” Cold Meat’s offering this time is a showcasing of mainly newer artists on the ever evolving Cold Meat Industry roster. This is a compelling and very diverse collection of material ranging from Neoclassical to Martial and on to some post industrial glitchiness, and you can probably fit a few other genres in as well should you so desire.
The compilation begins with a name that has become familiar to us in a fairly short time, and while not performing alongside Simon Kölle as Za Frûmi, the Stockholm based Simon Heath is better known to us perhaps as Atrium Carceri whose input for this release is utilizing piano to create a dreamy nostalgic piece with an air of mystery. This track was a good choice as an induction to the world of Cold Meat Industry.
Keeping up the good work is :Golgatha: whom I first became familiar with when they released Seven Pillars, the musical reflection on the myth of Thomas Edward Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia, which was an excellent undertaking on all accounts. Their offering on this release doesn’t retain any of the occidental influences that Seven Pillars did, this time around what we have is an ominous dark ambient track full of some heavy percussion whipped up into a ritualistic frenzy. Another artist that has been making a name for him self is Jerome Reuter. Whose Rome project managed to put out two releases, notably Nera and Berlin that ended up on many peoples’ year-end best of lists, his input here is in keeping with what we have come to appreciate Rome for, hopefully we will be hearing more from this artist in the future, whether as Rome or in another incarnation.
There is a lot of promise in these new signings to CMI it is difficult to highlight any one particular artist/band on this compilation as the music is varied and they all have their own different styles…Thankfully!
Beyond Sensory Experience as some of you may be familiar with from their excellent trilogy on Old Europa Cafe, Ratan, Tortuna, Ormula, but now after having changed labels they are to be found on CMI, and alas here on this compilation spinning a hypnotic web of post-industrial ambiance. I will say that some of the artists were unknown to me, other than seeing them on compilations or having read about them online at some point, for example, Medusa’s Spell their track pitches the perfect balance between Neofolk and Martial while at the same time retaining a traditional folk feeling to it, also adding a mix of traditional folk with a heavenly voice thrown in is All My Faith Lost, albeit a bit more on the darker side of things.
Although there are a variety of styles present on this compilation, at no time does it lose its continuity, a careful selection of all of the tracks took place so they would compliment one another. They do so very well, in fact the romantic neo-Classical leanings and lyrical prose that Decadence put forth jibe perfectly well with the more martial neo-classic folk moodiness that is Hrafn, Stormfågel and Pimentola.
This compilation was released in November of two thousand and six so it has been around for a little bit, if you haven’t heard it yet perhaps you still can.'
